Tool for Cline

Cline, with a browser of its own.

Add UnblockingAPI's hosted MCP server in Cline's Remote Servers tab and Cline reads the live web - pages that block bots, render with JavaScript, or come back as JSON from a template.

Live documentation

Cline reads the docs and changelogs it needs right now, not a remembered version.

Past the bot walls

Residential proxies and a real browser get pages a plain fetch can't.

Right in VS Code

No local server to run: one remote entry in Cline's MCP settings.

Cline can call any MCP tool you give it. unblock_fetch reads a page through UnblockingAPI, choosing a plain fetch or a real browser per site, and find_templates turns known sites into JSON fields.

Add it to Cline

Remote Servers tab with an API key

RecommendedURL + API key

Same hosted URL, authenticated by your key in a header.

  1. 1In the Cline panel, click the MCP Servers icon and open Remote Servers.
  2. 2Name unblockingapi, URL https://mcp.unblockingapi.com/mcp, transport Streamable HTTP, then Add Server.
  3. 3Open Configure MCP Servers and add your key as a header, as below.

cline_mcp_settings.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "unblockingapi": {
      "type": "streamableHttp",
      "url": "https://mcp.unblockingapi.com/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer your_api_key_here" }
    }
  }
}

Using the Cline CLI? One command does the same:

cline mcp add unblockingapi https://mcp.unblockingapi.com/mcp --transport http \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer your_api_key_here" --yes

Or run cline mcp and use Authorize OAuth to sign in instead of passing a key.

Run it locally

Local server

Prefer to run the server yourself? It is open source and runs with npx (Node.js 18+).

cline_mcp_settings.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "unblockingapi": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@unblockingapi/mcp"],
      "env": { "UNBLOCKINGAPI_KEY": "your_api_key_here" }
    }
  }
}

Try it in Cline

Ask this once you're connected. Cline should find the Google template with find_templates and come back with parsed results instead of HTML.
Use unblockingapi to get the Google results for "best espresso machine" as structured data, then summarise the top three.
No code

Want structured data instead of raw HTML?

unblock_fetch hands back the full rendered page. For clean fields instead - a price, a title, a whole list - build a template visually in the editor: load the page, tap what you want, done. No CSS selectors to write by hand.

Save it and it's a reusable API endpoint - same account, same key, same as the built-in templates. Build the structure once, then call it from your app - or your AI agent - forever.

Cline questions

Without a type, Cline assumes the older SSE transport. UnblockingAPI's server speaks Streamable HTTP, so set "type": "streamableHttp" (or pick Streamable HTTP in the Remote Servers tab).

The Cline CLI has an Authorize OAuth action for remote servers, and that works with UnblockingAPI. In the VS Code extension the key header is the documented route, so that is what we show first.

With the key header, the key is stored in Cline's config, so keep that file out of source control. Where sign-in is available it is the safer option: the app then holds only a revocable token, and you can disconnect it under Connected apps.

The MCP server is free and open source. Fetches run on your UnblockingAPI account: every successful fetch costs 1 credit and failed ones are free. New accounts get 500 free credits with no credit card, and plans make credits cheaper at volume. Looking up templates is free.

Three, all read-only. unblock_fetch reads any URL through rotating residential proxies and a real browser, picking a plain fetch or a browser per site by itself. It returns the page as Markdown (HTML on request), or JSON with a template. find_templates checks whether a published template covers a site. get_build_guide gives Cline the API reference and recipes when you build an app on the API. Details on the MCP server page.

The hosted server: nothing to install or update, and most apps sign in without a key. Run it locally with npx -y @unblockingapi/mcp if you prefer to keep the process on your machine - the tools and costs are the same.
